Keep Curious

Curiosity may have killed the cat but it could well be Peggy Cobb’s secret to her amazing longevity. She says curiosity is her middle name. She’s interested in everything that’s going on in today’s world from the oceans to space. She’s amazed by technology and can’t ever imagine being bored. Her advice to young people is to “keep curious.” It’s certainly worked for Peggy. She just turned 109.

Peggy has been feeding her curiosity her whole life. She has an undergraduate degree in education from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Education from St. Cloud State University – not an easy task for a woman at the time. She also served for 75 years in the nonprofit Philanthropic Educational Organization, a group founded in 1869, that has provided over $400 million in financial assistance to women.

Last year, on her 108th birthday, she had her first book published. It’s a children’s book titled “Painter Pan: The Rainbow Man.” Not only did she write it, but she also illustrated it. It’s a story she created in her 20s and has been telling to generations of children in her family ever since. Seeing it published was a lifelong dream come true!

When asked at her 109th birthday party she says she doesn’t feel any different. But she went on to talk about her father’s advice to her when she was young. He told her to “furnish your mind well, and you will always have a comfortable place to live.” Sounds like she spent a lifetime heeding his good advice.

Both Peggy and her father have some more wonderful advice to share. Interested? Keep reading…
